Training and Benefits
This doctoral school emphasizes early international networking and training in scientific concepts and methods in an interdisciplinary research environment.
The Centre for Microbiology and Environmental Systems Science represents a highly international environment, with members from over 25 different countries. Early international networking is further supported by existing seminar series such as the Centre Lecture Series or the DeBary Lectures, where students are exposed to and can interact with international speakers and leading scientists in the field.
The basic principle of training through research is met in the school by a number of measures. Naturally, all students will be fully integrated in the faculty’s research groups, and their research and training activities. This includes advanced training in cutting-edge methods through new workshops and seminars, research stays in partner labs, annual retreats, regular team meetings as well as individual meetings with the supervisor. This is complemented by department seminars, as well as regular seminars such as the “Let’s talk about symbiosis” seminar which brings together students and researchers interested from diverse faculties at the University of Vienna and the Medical University of Vienna.
